Top Rare Whitney Houston Songs
Queen of the Night, The Voice, Auntie Nip. All names that were given to Whitney Houston. Although she is known globally for hit songs such as I Will Always Love You, which has just hit a billion views on youtube, Greatest Love of All, So Emotional, many songs haven’t gotten merely as much attention they deserve. Whether or not Arista has chosen not to re-release or the location they’re released, they are some of my favorite songs by her. Here are the rare Whitney Houston songs ranked.
Eternal Love, released in 1983, two years before her debut album in 1985, Is a guest feature on the fourth studio album of Paul Jabara, entitled Paul Jabara and Friends. Fun fact, Raining Men by the Weather Girls was also featured on the same album! Eternal Love tells the story of a love that will live forever, which probably was always meant to happen and transcends time. The song’s melody is driven by a somber piano beautifully enhanced by Whitney’s growing and robust voice! Listen to the song on Youtube!
Feels So Good is the B-side to the popular single, I’m Your Baby Tonight from the album of the same name in 1990. The song is sensual and transports you to a new world that’s heavily influenced by Love. The melody is driven by slow drums that pair exceptionally well with Whitney’s voice. Her vocals air on the more breathy side that adds to the song’s sensual nature. This song tells the story of finding your first Love and all of the feelings that follow that moment. Narada Michael Walden produced the song. You can listen to it on Youtube!
Moment of Truth is another B-side of a popular single, this one being I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) from her sophomore album, Whitney, in 1987! This song explores the topic of a love that can’t grow because of the two lovers, telling the story of being afraid to be vulnerable with each other and saying they love each other. Moment of Truth was initially supposed to appear on the album but was replaced by “You’re Still My Man.” It instead went on to become the name of her second world tour, Moment of Truth Tour. Takin’ a Chance is a Japan-exclusive single from I’m Your Baby Tonight released in 1989 and appears on its Japanese version. This song tells the story of a nervous love and the fear of, well, wanting to take a chance on loving them. This song reminds of high school love and the jittery feelings that are associated with it. The song is very reminiscent of the Whitney era and has high production. It is written by Whitney herself, Bebe Winans, and Kieth Thomas. Listen to this song on Youtube!
Look into Your Heart is a song from the tribute album for Curtis Mayfield, released in 1994. This song has the feeling of a sort of a struggling love and coming to terms with it and trying to be happy regardless. The song features Whitney right in the middle of her growth and fullness right before transitioning into the next phase of her voice, and more full. These songs have quickly become my favorite songs from her, and wish they were a little more known, which I guess is good that they are rare because I can keep it all to myself.
